Israel: Deja vu all over again?

ISRAEL MATZAV
by Carl in Jerusalem

I don't know how many of you thought about this when you heard about the national unity government, but I will guarantee you that every Israeli thought about it. "It" was the 1967 Six-Day War. Charles Krauthammer explains.
Forty-five years later, in the middle of the night of May 7-8, 2012, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shocked his country by bringing the main opposition party, Kadima, into a national unity government. Shocking because just hours earlier, the Knesset was expediting a bill to call early elections in September.

Why did the high-flying Netanyahu call off elections he was sure to win?

Because for Israelis today, it is May ’67. The dread is not quite as acute: The mood is not despair, just foreboding. Time is running out, but not quite as fast. War is not four days away, but it looms. Israelis today face the greatest threat to their existence — nuclear weapons in the hands of apocalyptic mullahs publicly pledged to Israel’s annihilation — since May ’67. The world is again telling Israelis to do nothing as it looks for a way out. But if such a way is not found — as in ’67 — Israelis know that they will once again have to defend themselves, by themselves.

Such a fateful decision demands a national consensus. By creating the largest coalition in nearly three decades, Netanyahu is establishing the political premise for a preemptive strike, should it come to that. The new government commands an astonishing 94 Knesset seats out of 120, described by one Israeli columnist as a “hundred tons of solid concrete.”

So much for the recent media hype about some great domestic resistance to Netanyahu’s hard line on Iran. Two notable retired intelligence figures were widely covered here for coming out against him. Little noted was that one had been passed over by Netanyahu to be the head of Mossad, while the other had been fired by Netanyahu as Mossad chief (hence the job opening). For centrist Kadima (it pulled Israel out of Gaza) to join a Likud-led coalition whose defense minister is a former Labor prime minister (who once offered half of Jerusalem to Yasser Arafat) is the very definition of national unity — and refutes the popular “Israel is divided” meme. “Everyone is saying the same thing,” explained one Knesset member, “though there may be a difference of tone.”

Fayyad: Please send money or else

Bee's Note:
Oh no!  The Arab nations are not supporting the Palestinian Authority (using the term "authority" lightly!),  Now, why do you suppose  the United States, the EU, and UN aren't able to keep those Palestinians afloat?  The Palestinian Authority (include Hamas/Gaza in that tight-knit group), since it's been over a year ago when the PA's joined up with Hamas leadership, can't find the same "compassion" from their own "brothers".  Plant some bleeding hearts, please, among the weeds of deception in Fayyad's garden.
One can only hope Obama is not reading this teary-eyed plea from Fayyad!  If he is, Americans can expect another announcement from Obama and Hillary that Americans should understand the importance of dishing out more MILLIONS to the "poor" Palestinians, as it is in the "best" interests of the United States security, etc. etc. and etc.
I think I understand why this administration's focus is on aiding the PA's more than the Arabs.  It has to do with how much money the U.S. has invested in supporting an organization that can't seem to take care of themselves after years of "hand-outs" from the world.  The PA's (formerly the PLO's) haven't learned how to budget the BILLIONS they receive; or, learn how to put that money to better use than educating their children to hate; or using that "gifted" money to bomb Israel; or, to line the pockets of the PA's/Hamas leaders.
One thing for sure, the PA's have not learned or taught their people in all the years they have had their hands out to be productive and contribute to their own society. Apparently, they or some are living beyond their means and that is expected when people live off the hard work of others. They are the biggest Welfare organization in the world!  Lazy, unproductive, irresponsible beggars.  After all, as long as the PA's are claiming "poor-mouth", the Arabs can use them as a propaganda item in order to gain the sympathy of the world to blame Israel for their false plight.(Sadly, that seems to work every time the PA's beg for more money.)  And to think, they actually believe they deserve "statehood" when the Arab nations won't give them a room for a night or a dime for a loaf of bread.  The Arabs can refuse to aid the PA's because to-date, the world has been willing to do what the Arabs refuse to do - support their Muslim brothers and sisters.
How many more generations will this old world be expected to support this organization?  It's past time we all reviewed U.S. aid to the PA's and perhaps turned that responsibility over to the Arabs.

'Palestinian' Prime Minister Salam Fayyad is once again schnorring for money.
Given the task of building institutions in readiness for statehood, Fayyad said his job was being imperiled by a lack of resources, with Arab nations failing to hand over promised aid.

"There is an issue of survivability of the Palestinian Authority given the acute financial crisis we are going through," he said, adding his government needed a "few hundred million dollars" to keep afloat.

The Palestinian Authority -- which exercises limited self-rule in the West Bank -- depends on donor aid from the United States, the European Union and Arab states to pay the salaries of public workers, including teachers and security personnel.

The Palestinians had planned for foreign aid of about $1.1 billion in 2011, but received just under $750 million and are lagging again in donations this year. No reason has been given for the failure of some Arab allies to honor their pledges.
Boo. Hoo. Maybe the Arab countries are finally getting sick of supporting the bloated and unproductive 'Palestinian' bureaucracy. Maybe they should go to work.

Bibi the Survivor - By Sultan Knish

Tuesday, May 08, 2012

Thirteen years after he was sent packing by Bill Clinton's political consultants and a phony third party, Bibi Netanyahu has become a political survivor. The awkward politician constantly under siege by the media and at the mercy of domestic political squabbling, has become a veteran of Israel's turbulent politics.

Netanyahu owes most of his success to a dysfunctional political climate. in which there is no one left to replace him. The old generation of leaders is gone and even a notoriously fickle Israeli electorate would not trust most of his rivals to make them dinner, let alone run a country. Displaced by Sharon, he learned the game of coalitions from him and has ably exploited the rivalries and petty careerism of the Knesset lineup to stay in office. With Barak by his side and Peres shaking hands with foreign dignitaries, the transformation is almost complete.

Netanyahu's electability allows him to exploit the less electable, flipping through ministers and coalition partners like a game of cards. A deeply divided and thoroughly corrupt Knesset has no shortage of partners willing to dance with him for a ministry and the perks of power. With no one positioned to take down Netanyahu, his is the only game in town and everyone knows it.

Before Sharon, two conservative Israeli Prime Ministers were forced out by American pressure over the peace process. One of those men was Netanyahu. Since Begin met Carter, there has never been a relationship as bad as the one between Netanyahu and Obama. If Clinton wanted Netanyahu gone, Obama wants him gone on a rail. And that makes Netanyahu's position dangerously precarious because in any election or coalition deal, Washington D.C. is the shadow player.

But Livni's appeals to Obama suggesting that she would make all the deals that Netanyahu would not, did not help. Instead she was shouldered aside by Shaul Mofaz who has brought Kadima, with its sizable Knesset presence, into the coalition with Netanyahu. There is little doubt that Mofaz, like anyone who jumped ship for the trumped up Kadima Party, would sell out the country and his own mother at a signal from Obama.

This brand of insanity makes Israeli politics a high-wire act where there is no stability and no future, and Bibi has learned to walk the tightrope. Whether he has learned to enjoy it is another story.

Outsiders may imagine that Israeli politics involves long discussions about terrorism, and depending on their political views, extended sessions on how to make Palestinian Arab children cry or how to win a stunning victory over terror. Neither is really true. Like most countries, Israeli politics are domestic. They involve things that hardly anyone on the outside cares about, even when poison pen correspondents like Karl Vick and Jodi Rudoren try to explain toTime Magazine and New York Times readers how this development once again reaffirms Israel's status as the liberal devil.

Israeli politics, like everyone's politics, is mainly about dividing the government pie among all the interest groups who want a piece; it is about politicians advocating programs that won't pass in order to score points with a constituency; and it is about interest groups denouncing each other for taking too much of the pie and using it the wrong way. And, most of all, it's about people who have few skills and many contacts, who have managed to get themselves into the Knesset and will make any deal and do any dirty deed to stay there.

If a preemptive strike on Iran's nuclear program does take place, it will have very little to do with the politics of the moment, which focuses on such glamorous issues as political access, government money, the draft and deciding whom to blame for the destruction of the country. It will happen just as quietly and quickly as the coalition deal with Kadima did. A stealth attack in a loud political process.

Unlike the American and European left which oppose an Israeli strike on the Iranian nuclear program because they oppose Israel's continued existence, the majority of the Israeli political establishment knows that Iran's nuclear program needs to be stopped. What they are opposed to is Netanyahu getting the credit for stopping it. Bringing Mofaz into the tent will allow him to share in the credit, but will redouble the opposition from outside the coalition and from rivals inside it as well.

It will also give Netanyahu a little breathing room in the latest round of the secular-religious conflict by bringing in a partner which cannot afford to alienate either side if it wants to one day run the country, while making his government less dependent on the quarreling parties. It's a formula for gridlock on a partisan issue that has no possible resolution anyway.

But all that leaves one question unanswered. What is Netanyahu really planning to do? To Americans he may seem like a natural leader, but to the Israeli right, he's Mitt Romney, a smooth-talker with few principles and many concessions. And yet Netanyahu is not an empty vessel filled with careerism and corruption, like Ehud Olmert or Shaul Mofaz. There is the appearance of a decent man inside all the politics, but his policies for the most part have been defined by the politics.

The Bibi who allowed himself to be bullied by Clinton at Wye appeared to stand up to Obama in D.C., but policy-wise, he does not seem to have fundamentally changed from that man. American foreign policy hands are banking on Netanyahu playing the "Nixon goes to China" role and making the concessions on Jerusalem that no left-wing politician would. And that is an impression that he needs to cultivate to keep from being forced out of office. But what is the truth behind all the games?

That's a question which unfortunately cannot be answered. Admiring Netanyahu's political maneuvers is a dangerous game. His predecessor in the Likud Party, who played it better than he did, was a war hero and tough-talker from the right who proved to be one of the worst disasters after the other war hero and tough-talker from the left. Sharon and Rabin rammed through disastrous policies at the expense of the country.  It would not be unprecedented for Netanyahu to do the same thing.

Netanyahu is a different breed of political animal. His only policy in two governments has been the waiting game. Last time around he was forced out before the waiting game expired. It's an open question of whether this time the waiting game is leading up to something or whether he's still playing just to stay in the game.

In a different country, Netanyahu would be admired as the man who led Israel through economic turmoil and privatization to prosperity. But Israel's most pressing problems are not economic and thanks to Rabin and Peres, it does not have the leisure to turn itself into Hong Kong or Singapore at its own pace.

The conservative politician of the current period is above all else a good manager. Not glamorous, even a touch dorky, but good with numbers and reminds the electorate of their uncle or nephew. He may be fairly liberal, but he gives the impression of being solid and reliable. Perhaps not fully trustworthy, but competent at whatever it is he does.

Netanyahu was ahead of the curve, ahead of Prime Minister Cameron in the UK or Mitt Romney in the US, as the template for this type of politician. It's no wonder that Netanyahu gets along well with Romney, they are somewhat similar, the pragmatic sons of strong-willed fathers trying to find their own place in the world. They are instinctively moderate and good managers; but lacking in passion.

In a conflict they take the path of least resistance. In Israel the path of least resistance means bowing to international pressure, making more concessions, handing over Jerusalem and ignoring Iran. If Netanyahu does this, then he will likely seal Israel's fate and will become one of the last prime ministers of the State of Israel.

Netanyahu's political maneuverings show that he is a political survivor, the great unknown is whether his principles have also survived. And whether Israel will survive him.

I’m Bin Laden and I Approve This Message

Posted by  Bio ↓ on May 9th, 2012 - FRONT PAGE MAGAZINE

As if SEAL Team Six’s successful elimination ofOsama bin Laden weren’t a big enough score, the raid on his compound in Abbottabad also yielded captured documents for analysis by experts in the Intelligence Community. These communications between bin Laden and his lieutenants have so far led to interesting revelations about al Qaeda, such as the jihadist organization’s perceptions about exploiting Western media to promote its propaganda to the public.
The Combating Terrorism Center at West Point released a memorandum to the public last Thursday which summarizes and analyzes seventeen of the seized, translated documents. Among them were letters in which bin Laden expressed concern about al Qaeda’s deteriorating public image, particularly among other Muslims, which he desperately sought to rectify by enlisting the aid of the media.
Having a focused, coherent media strategy was critical for bin Laden. Like all of America’s enemies who can’t compete with us on the battlefield, he understood that winning the media campaign is just as critical to victory than military campaigns – possibly more so. “The issue of Jihadi media,” wrote bin Laden in a letter dated October 20, 2010 among the Abbottabad papers, “is a main piece of the war.”

Part of that campaign was to trumpet in the media the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 atrocity (referred to in the documents as the “Manhattan battle”), an anniversary the SEALs didn’t let him live to celebrate. He had hoped to extract great propaganda benefit from it. “This is a chance to explain our motives for continuing the war,” he wrote:
We need to benefit from this event and get our messages to the Muslims and celebrate the victory that they achieved. We need to restore their confidence in their nation and motivate them. We should also present our just cause to the world, especially to the European people.
Bin Laden suggested contacting Al-Jazeera for their cooperation, and also pondered the merits of U.S. television news networks:
We should also look for an American channel that can be close to being unbiased, such as CBS, or other channel that has political motives that make it interested in broadcasting the point of view of al-Mujahidin. Then, we can send to the channel the material that we want the Americans to see.
In addition to feeling out Al-Jazeera, bin Laden wanted to contact internationally known British journalist Robert Fisk of the Independent (an American foreign policy critic who had actually interviewed bin Laden three times in the mid-90s) and other reporters to emphasize the message to the Western powers that perhaps the energy spent pursuing al Qaeda would be better directed by addressing climate change. Yes, climate change.
In a letter that dates from January 2011 or later, its recipient unknown, California-born al Qaeda spokesman Adam Gadahn shared his thoughts on bin Laden’s request for a media strategy to mark the 9/11 anniversary. He too mentions sending “special media material” on the date to a number of print journalists around the world, including Fisk. The intent was to win infidel hearts and minds by showing “the fairness of our case to the whole world and the European peoples in particular.”

The planned re-election of Obama, revolutionary style

Obama administration, including his czars and his closest Progressive supporters, are planning a manufactured insurgency against America. Using the media to garner both sympathy and support for his unfinished goals

The Contact

It was not the proverbial 3:00 a.m. phone call, but close enough. And it was not made to the White House, but to my house, which is not white, nor is it in DC. It was about 2:30 a.m. on 25 April 2012, and the call itself was somewhat unexpected. I had anticipated the telephone call from my DHS insider much earlier the previous day, but our schedules didn’t synch up. I was traveling on an investigative assignment, while my source was in meetings all day. I had just fallen asleep, and was slumbering no more than 20 minutes when the phone rang.

In most households, a ringing phone at that time of night causes concern for everyone who hears it. In my household, it seems to surprise only my surly, 140 pound light-sleeping German Shepherd. He let out an objective grunt as I stepped over him to take the call in another room. It was “Rosebud,” the code name given my insider source.

About Rosebud

Just a little bit here about my source and his “super-secret code name.” I’ve known this government insider since 1979, when he first became a municipal patrol officer. He took a job in a bigger city and had a very successful run as a cop. Before retirement and after the events of 9/11, he was tapped by the feds, where he worked in various capacities under the umbrella of DHS. He worked his way up, and suddenly found himself in what he terms the inner sanctum of the “TEC” building. TEC, he explains, is an acronym for what he calls “The Estrogen Challenged,” which houses the upper echelon of the Department of Homeland Security. I’ll leave it at that.

As far as his code name, it originates from an incident that occurred at the end of the disco era. It is something that we both privately laugh about, but rarely ever talk about. His “code name” is known to him, me, and at the time, a young woman who has since vanished amid the glitter of disco balls and constant replays of the Bee Gees in a dark nightclub some 32 years ago, and has no “cloak and dagger” origins.
But he is real, his position serious, and his knowledge vast. Unfortunately, that’s what makes the whole situation frightening and deadly serious.

The information

It began on Wednesday, 2 May 2012 with a 45-minute interview on TruNews with Rick Wiles when I first disclosed the information I received the previous week from my source. The information I relayed “went viral,” as they say, across the internet.
To support the statements I made during that interview, I am showing my handwritten notes taken contemporaneously during our conversation. My notes consist of two pages and are, at various points,  admittedly difficult to decipher. I ask that points not be deducted for my penmanship given the time of the morning which they were taken.
According to my source, there is talk among the highest levels of the uppermost echelon of the Department of Homeland Security, which he describes as effectively under the control of Barack Hussein Obama. During this call, he said that the DHS is actively preparing for massive social unrest inside the United States. He then corrected himself, stating that “a civil war” is the more appropriate term. Certain elements of the government are not only expecting and preparing for it, they are actually facilitating it,” stated my source.
“The DHS takes their marching orders from the Obama administration, from Obama himself, but mostly from his un-appointed czars. And Jarrett, especially Valerie Jarrett. Don’t think for a minute that the administration is doing anything to stabilize events in the U.S. They are revolutionaries, and revolutionaries thrive on chaos,” he added.
My source stated that he has not seen things this bad since he began working within DHS. “It’s like they [DHS agency heads] don’t care about what the American people see or feel about what the DHS agencies are doing. They figure that if the average American will put up with being “sexually groped and nuked” just to fly, they’ll accept almost anything. “That’s why their actions are becoming more overt.  “It’s in your face and the brass actually chuckle about it” said my source.

New Information

Astounded by the information my source provided “going viral,” I spoke to him again early Sunday morning. This was a scheduled telephone call (as noted on page 2 of my notes) based on a high level meeting of DHS personnel that was scheduled for and took place in Chantilly, Virginia, on Saturday, 5 May 2012.  He hoped to provide me with more information to supplement that which he already given. Although he was not personally present, his source was. While he would not say who was at the meeting on Saturday or give its precise location, he said that the many of the names would be recognizable. He spoke to his source late Saturday night.
I contacted him on his cellular phone early Sunday morning to get the promised update.
“Geez, nice job on getting the word out about what’s really going on at DHS and in this administration,” were the first words out of his mouth, followed by “thanks a lot.” I asked him why he would be thanking me. “I just wanna’ tell you that I’m going to have to hire someone to start my car, and I’m surely not going for any rides in small planes in the immediate future,” he said with a bit of nervous laughter. “I hope no one finds out who I am or it’s going to be more than my pension I’ll have to worry about.”
“I can tell you word is getting out that people are starting to wake up, which is causing a lot of ‘pissed off brass.’  I can’t tell if they are more desperate or upset about the exposure, but the tone is starting to become a lot more tense. I hope that we’re having something to do with that,” he added.
With that, he provided me with additional information to supplement that which he already given me on 25 April. For clarity purposes, I have combined the information together from both contacts. The following information includes the updated information provided to me Sunday morning.

Obama the revolutionary

Metaphorically speaking, there’s a revolution going on in the U.S., propped up by three legs. Economic chaos, chaos through racial division, and chaos through class division, all joined by one core element: Barack Hussein Obama and his stable of unelected czars. Obama is using the lessons learned in 1968 as the template for 2012, and many of those who were active in the late 1960s are now calling the shots for 2012.
“The Obama administration and many of the un-elected ‘czars,’ either directly or indirectly, are engaged in covert activities with the occupy movement, various labor protests, and other subversive activities inside the U.S.,” stated my source. Using untracked campaign funds, they are paying people to infiltrate the various movements to cause physical destruction of property and disrupt commerce. That began last year, but has increased ten-fold already this year,” stated this source. He added that they are using some lower level DHS agents to make the payments under the context of tracking subversives, but they are the unwitting subversives. “It’s like Fast & Furious” but in the social realm,” he added.
“Obama is using some high profile people as pawns to foment the revolution. I heard several times through very credible sources that [Louis] Farrakhan is on the CIA payroll. Other have been named as well, but I’m not prepared to identify them yet. Farrakhan is to coordinate the Blacks and the Muslims to prepare for riots this summer, using any means necessary.”
“Mentioned at the meeting Saturday were methods to use pawns to simulate the rioting in the Arab Spring countries, but to the benefit of this administration. A controlled chaos thing,” stated my source. They envision rioting starting in the urban areas first, such as New York and other major cities, followed by a disruption of business and commerce. This will allow the DHS to mobilize their various teams into the streets of America without objection of the people,” stated my source.
“They want to restrict travel, if not through high energy prices, then by checkpoints and curfews mandated by rioting and unrest. They understand we are the most well-armed nation in the world, yet they are aware of our vulnerabilities and intend to fully exploit them,” he added. The whole purpose is to keep Obama in office for another term, no matter how unpopular he is, as he is not finished changing our country from a Constitutional Republic. This is the run-up to the 2012 elections, or perhaps causing enough chaos to delay them - indefinitely.”
One statement that rattled me more than anything was that a great number of those already in power, whether in appointed or elected positions, actually want to see Obama stay in power, according to this source. “This is what we’ve been working toward and we’re closer now than we’ve ever been. If we lose now, we might not have another chance.”
This chilling common goal also explains the lack of interest in the Constitutional legitimacy of Obama. It is common knowledge that Obama is not an American, and neither is his agenda. Of course, criticism of his bona-fides feeds into the cries of racism, despite the massive fraud perpetrated on the American people. Party lines are meaningless when the common objective is the revolutionary overtaking of America.

Obama, the professor of Keynesian economics

“The Obama administration is working closely with Bernanke, Geithner and others not to save our economy, but to outright destroy it. He is not the first or only one to try this, but the most effective and most vetted for that purpose. Do you actually think that the fact that Timothy Geithner’s father worked with Obama’s mother in Indonesia was coincidental,” stated my source rhetorically. “What we’re seeing now is the fourth quarter of a game that started long ago, which also currently involves the Clintons. Obama would not be where he is if it were not for the Clintons, and to a lesser extent, Bush, but that’s for other reasons.  Don’t be fooled, the Clintons never left or lost power,” he added.
“There are file drawers full of papers, heavily guarded papers at the ‘TEC building’  so I can only imagine what’s in them, about international financial dealings going back decades. I do know, or at least I was told, that they involve organizations that are the so-called conspiracy fringe groups, such as the Bilderberg group, the Trilateral Commission, and people including George Soros, Henry Kissinger, and current leaders of big industry. Some are fossils. They’ve been around a long time. Others are up-and-coming. They’ve got one thing in common, though, and that is to put in place a global system of governance, including a common currency. Economics is a huge part of this revolution, and they want to replace the dollar, to see it collapse. They expect, that is, they are working toward this very goal, and when this happens, it will cause chaos like never seen before in the history of this country.”
“Why do you think Jon Corzine is not only walking around, but heavily involved in Obama fundraising? They know it’s just a matter of time that Europe will implode economically, and when it does, start counting the days before we see massive hyperinflation and the ultimate collapse of the U.S. dollar,” stated this insider.  “What will it look like in the streets of America when the general population realizes that there is no money? That’s right, chaos.”

Biden on Iran: 'We were the problem'

WASHINGTON EXAMINER
byCharlie Spiering Commentary Staff Writer

May 8, 2012 12:10pm8 Comments
According to Vice President Joe Biden, President Obama deserves all the credit for isolating Iran. President Bush, on the other hand, only isolated America.
“When we took office, let me remind you that there was no international pressure on Iran.” Biden stated adding that negotiations were “stuck in neutral.”
“We were the problem,” Biden insisted. “We were diplomatically isolated in the world, in the region, in Europe.” (Hmm!  Just add this latest condemnation of America to the Apologist-in-Chief's long list of apologies for America to the world. How about, we were and still are at war with Islamic terrorism and war is never diplomatic, especially when our enemies are now Obama's "best" friends. Maybe Obama's friends in Hollywood will make a new movie entitled "Tea at the White House with the Muslim Brotherhood")
Biden made his remarks in a speech to the National Convention of the Rabbinical Assembly in Atlanta, and suggested that under Bush, Iran's influence was "growing in the region."
"American's leadership was in doubt, we were neither fully respected by our friends nor feared by our opponents," Biden added. "Today it is starkly starkly different."  (Note: this is another lie from the Obama administration!  Obama  changed America's friends over to Islam - supporting, praising, welcoming Islamic terrorist groups to the White House, while dismissing and betraying America's allies.  How's that for change Americans?!)
Biden said that under Obama, countries are more willing to work together to step up against Iran. (I can't believe he said this with a straight face - another lie!)
"I would argue that it's not just because of the legitimate threat, but because of the president's efforts, Iran is now isolated and the United States is not isolated." Biden said to heavy applause

UNDERWEAR BOMBER WAS ACTUALLY CIA DOUBLE AGENT

PAT DOLLARD  - MAY 8, 2012
Air Compassion For Veterans
Excerpted from NY TIMES: WASHINGTON — The would-be suicide bomber dispatched by the Yemen branch of Al Qaeda last month to blow up a United States-bound airliner was actually an intelligence agent for Saudi Arabia who infiltrated the terrorist group and volunteered for the suicide mission, American and foreign officials said Tuesday. In an extraordinary intelligence coup, the double agent left Yemen, traveling by way of the United Arab Emirates, and delivered both the innovative bomb designed for his air attack and critical information on the group’s leaders to the C.I.A., Saudi and other foreign intelligence agencies.
After spending weeks at the center of the terrorist network’s most dangerous affiliate, Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, the agent provided critical information that permitted the C.I.A. to direct the drone strike on Sunday that killed Fahd Mohammed Ahmed al-Quso, the group’s external operations director and a suspect in the bombing of the American destroyer Cole in Yemen in 2000.
He also handed over the bomb, designed by the group’s top explosives expert to be invisible to airport security, to the F.B.I., which is analyzing its properties.
Officials said the agent, whose identity they would not disclose, works for the Saudi intelligence service, which has cooperated closely with the C.I.A. for several years against the terrorist group in Yemen. He operated in Yemen with the full knowledge of the C.I.A., but not under its direct supervision, the officials said.
The agent is now safe in Saudi Arabia, officials said. The bombing plot was kept secret for weeks by the C.I.A. and other agencies because they feared retaliation against the agent and his family.

Taliban In North Waziristan Attack Pakistani Army Convoy, 12 Soldiers Killed, 3 Captured and then Beheaded

TUESDAY, MAY 8, 2012

Apparently, the Taliban want anyone in Pakistan that is thinking of joining the Army there that if they are captured by the Taliban, they will be beheaded as this happened just the past couple of days - 3 soldiers to be exact were captured in a convoy attacked and later beheaded...a total of 12 troops were killed by the Taliban.

From the story at DAWN:
Clashes between troops and militants in North Waziristan killed 19 soldiers and civilians, and wounded nearly 100 others, officials said Tuesday.

Violence flared Sunday when gunmen armed with rockets attacked a military convoy near Miranshah, the main town in the tribal district on the Afghan border.

Among the dead were 12 Pakistani soldiers, three of whom were captured and beheaded, a local intelligence official told AFP.

“Seven civilians, including two children and three women, were killed and 71 others were injured during two days of violence,” the official added.

At least 20 soldiers were also wounded, he said.

This is exactly why Pakistan has been so resistant to conduct any kind of operation in North Waziristan - first off, the countryside is literally teeming with Taliban and al Qaeda and secondly, the Taliban are willing to go to any length to intimidate the government troops from coming into the agency.  Needless to say, there was no announcement of an apology by the Taliban for the civilians killed.

North Waziristan clashes ‘killed 19, injured 71’ in two days

MIRANSHAH: Clashes between troops and militants in North Waziristan killed 19 soldiers and civilians, and wounded nearly 100 others, officials said Tuesday.

On Monday, helicopter gun-ships attacked a three-storey building housing weapons shops in Miranshah’s main bazaar, causing a huge fire, witnesses said.

Two other intelligence officials in the area confirmed the death toll of 19.

Officials on Monday had put the overall death toll at 15.

Intelligence officials also said 17 militants were killed in the clashes.

An AFP reporter saw the bodies of 12 militants.

Calm has since returned, after local tribal elders interceded between the political administration and militants, officials said.

Shops and the main bazaar in Miranshah re-opened on Tuesday, an AFP reporter said.
